Keys for these records:
- Notice the provinces listed.
- If your province is listed, records might have been added for your town.
- Have drop-downs to narrow search: "Institute" lists State Archives included; "Archival Stock" lists 3 genealogical periods; "Collections" lists collections to choose from.
- Note "Alphabetical Indexes" in Collections. This can be important.
Keys for these records:
- Find your region on the map and click on it.
- If your province is shown on list of "State Archives," then click on name.
- If you see "Browse civil state records" under "Archivio di Stato," you may have records available for your town.
- If you see "Images not yet available," records have been added yet.
Keys for these records:
- Notice the provinces listed.
- If your province is listed, it's possible the records for your town have been added. But not necessarily, you just need to try.
- If your province is not listed, their records have not been indexed at this time.
- You can narrow search by collection..

- You'll see these collections are sorted by PROVINCE, TOWN.
- Scroll down the list to find your province and/or town.
- If you see collections, then explore each to get an idea of what is available. You may find one that specifically lists your town, or your town may be included in the collections for the province. You need to check all collections.
- Collections that have been "Indexed" are those which specify the number of records indexed.
- Collections that state "Browse Images" have not been indexed and are "Image-Only" Collections. You will need to browse through the images manually.

Since you want to find your record quickly, always start with Indexed Records. They will take you directly to the record. When you click on #1 and #2 below, you see search boxes where you can provide Last Name, First Name, Birthplace, Town, Year, etc.
